Toshiba KT-S3

The Toshiba KT-S3 is a vintage portable cassette player released in1982, designed as a compact and stylish alternative to larger cassette decks. It features a sleek, lightweight design with a belt clip for portability, making it a competitor to early Sony Walkman models. The KT-S3 includes basic playback controls, a headphone jack, and runs on batteries for on-the-go music listening. While it lacks advanced features like auto-reverse or Dolby noise reduction, it is known for its reliability and dual headphone output allowing you to share music with others, making it a sought-after item among collectors of vintage audio equipment. The KT-S3 also came standard with a radio pack tuner pack that was inserted instead of a cassette.

This Example was found in good condition. It was non operational due to deterioration of the rubber belts. This example also had an oxidized volume potentiometer and a cracked solder joint in one of the headphone jacks. This caused excessive crackling, dead zones, and intermittent volume.

The belts were replaced, the mechanism was stripped of grease, and re-greased and re-oiled with a synthetic alternative to prevent petroleum-based oils from deteriorating the rubber belts. Mechanical components were adjusted for proper tension and alignment. the electrical issues were fixed by using a contact cleaner / deoxidizer. The headphone jack was stripped of old solder and replaced with new solder after cleaning to create a solid connection.
